What is a Factory Recall?
According to safercar.gov, a recall is issued “when a manufacturer or the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle, equipment, car seat, or tire creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards.” The recall may pertain to a specific model and model year or may cover multiple models and years.
How Do I Know If My Vehicle Has Been Recalled?
Recently, Genesis notified the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) that there was a problem with a malfunctioning Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) module on its 2015 – 2016 Hyundai Genesis, 2017 – 2020 Genesis G80, and 2019-2021 Genesis G70 luxury sedans. A possible short circuit in the ABS module can increase the risk of fire whether the car is being driven or even when it is parked with the engine off.
Owners of vehicles affected by this recall should be notified in writing sometime in early May 2021. The letter will explain the nature of the specific recall and provide instructions regarding what steps to take to get the recall repaired.
Where do I Check for Vehicle Recalls

Additionally, Safercar.gov offers a handy mobile app for both Apple and Android phones that allows you to easily search for recall information.
Where Do I Find My VIN?

There are several places where you’ll find your vehicle’s VIN. It is usually located on the driver’s side dashboard (viewable from the windshield) or on a sticker on the inside driver’s side door jamb. You’ll also find the VIN on the vehicle’s insurance card, registration, title, or loan contract.
Can I Still Drive My Vehicle if It’s Been Recalled?
Whether or not you can still drive your Genesis if it’s been recalled depends on the nature of the problem. In most cases, owners are advised to have their vehicles repaired as soon as possible. If you suspect that your Genesis may be included in this most recent ABS module recall, Genesis advises that you shouldn’t drive it, park it near buildings, or in your garage due to the risk of fire.
