Christmas is nearly here as I sit down to write this, and time is running out to pick up the last items on my shopping list. The demand for these final objects of desire is on the level only seen with the hottest items of Christmases gone by. I’m of course talking about Tickle Me Elmo, Cabbage Patch Kids, Beenie Babies, and Turbo Man.
This year, it’s all been about trying to find a PS5 for the kids. (I really need two, and I know supplies are short and I’ve never even seen one in person, but I’m beginning to wonder if they even exist.)
I think adults deserve amazing gifts, as well, and there’s only one item on the wishlist this year. Unfortunately, just like the PS5s, it isn’t going to be available this Christmas either, though I know my patience will pay off when I bring home the all-new 2023 Genesis Electric G80.
The Genesis Electrified G80 combines all the amazing facets of the ICE G80 with an all-new electric drivetrain, while also blazing a trail for additional Genesis electric vehicles. I think it’s also going to be the new standard for electric luxury sedans, and I’d like to dig into a bit of exactly why that is.

The signature Crest Grille of the Electrified G80 has evolved into an aerodynamic crest and features an inverted G-Matrix pattern to drive home this luxury EV’s mission for sustainability. The charging door is integrated seamlessly into the grille’s upper right corner, and the Two Lines chrome design is applied to the interior of the charging door.
The interior of the Electrified G80 doesn’t require any changes, but Genesis sources a number of natural or recycled materials for this version of the G80. There are natural dyes used in the leather for the seats, console, and rear seat armrest; recycled wood trim in the eco-friendly natural wood trim; and recycled PET fabrics.

The Electronic Control Suspension with Road Preview creates an optimized driving experience by adapting the suspension based on information supplied by the front-facing camera.
There’s no question (and plenty of reviews verifying) that the Genesis G80 is a tremendous luxury car, but the new Electrified G80 adds to that esteemed vehicle the benefits of its electric drivetrain to deliver enthralling performance.
I’m still anxiously waiting for horsepower and torque numbers for the new Electrified G80 to be released for the US-market vehicle we’ll see in Miami, but I’m willing to be they compare favorably to the 375 HP and 391 lb.-ft of torque available with the optional 3.5L Twin Turbo V6.

One well-understood benefit of an electric motor is the near-instant availability of 100% of system torque and the strong acceleration which comes from that amazing throttle response.
Prodigious amounts of on-demand torque can make it difficult to safely and efficiently put an electric vehicle’s power to the ground, and the Electrified G80 is fitted with an adaptable All-Wheel Drive system to do just that. The AWD system features a Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) which allows this luxury EV sedan to seamlessly switch between Rear and All-Wheel drive depending on driving conditions. This feature reduces unnecessary power loss and increases the efficiency of the Electrified G80 by minimizing driveline drag.
Car and Driver ran a 2022 Genesis G80 with the 3.5L V6 from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, and I’m counting on the Electrified G80 to offer comparable performance.
Charging stations are being installed to help alleviate this concern, but Florida is already well equipped to ease the minds of the lucky folks who end up behind the wheel of Electrified Genesis G80s.

The Alternative Fuels Data Center shows nearly 2,400 electric vehicle charging stations in Florida. That site also shows 478 station locations within 20 miles of the 33137 ZIP code where Braman Miami’s beautiful showroom is located. You may need to stick to the major highways if you suddenly need to drive to the West Coast, but you’ll have no problem finding a spot to refill your G80 in Florida.
The Electrified G80 is equipped with technology to make range anxiety a thing of the past: the battery can be boosted from 10% to 80% in only 22 minutes thanks to the 305kW rapid charging system. I’ve certainly spent more time walking around gas stations on my road trips.
The Braman Genesis Miami team is anxiously awaiting the full battery details for the Electrified G80 we’ll see in Miami, but Motor1 discovered the Korean market’s Electrified G80 is equipped with an 87.2-kWh battery with an estimated range of 265 miles.
Power doesn’t just go into the electric version of the 2023 Genesis G80; it comes out in a surprisingly useful manner. The Electrified G80 provides a Vehicle to Load (V2L) system which allows 3.6 kW (more than many households can produce) to be used to easily power appliances outside the vehicle. I’m looking forward to tailgating for the first time in the flexible luxury EV.
