2022 Genesis GV70 vs. 2022 Acura RDX
In a segment filled to the brim with interesting options, few can match the value and finesse of the uber-affordable GV70 and, to a lesser extent, Acura RDX. For the money – even top-of-the-line models are priced below $55k – you'll do no better than these two luxury SUVs.

Unless you’re some sort of superhero, you can’t be in two drivers’ seats at the same time, which means you’ll probably want to buy or lease one or the other. Which will it be: The multiple award-winning SUV with next-level technology and a penchant for turning heads or the Acura RDX?

5 Reasons Why GV70 is Better Than RDX

It's true that some people may not yet know of the Genesis nameplate. But if the auto brand continues releasing truly special and revelatory vehicles like the GV70, they’ll be at the top of shoppers’ lists in no time. As they say, out with the old (Acura) and in with the new (Genesis).

1. It’s the Undisputed Best Luxury SUV of 2022

2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year

“Nothing beats the moment of discovery... It's the precise moment you realize you've found something you didn't know you wanted but now can't live without. In the automotive world, the Genesis GV70 is just such a discovery. And that's why it is the 2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year.” - Zach Gale, MotorTrend

Edmunds Top Rated Luxury SUV

"Impactful styling and an impressive blend of virtues make the Genesis GV70 a worthy choice as Edmunds Top Rated Luxury SUV. The GV70 isn't just a bold choice; it's a smart choice, too." - Edmunds

The Car Connection Best Luxury Car

The 2022 Genesis GV70 might be the most impressive Genesis model yet, with its balance of comfort, sport, features, and value.” - Robert Duffer, The Car Connection

KBB Compact Luxury SUV Best Buy of 2022

“The Genesis GV70 takes the crown this year as Best Compact Luxury SUV in the 2022 KBB Best Buy Awards...by checking all the right boxes. It has handsome styling and sporty attitude, an ample amount of standard equipment, and remarkable technology and safety features, all at a competitive price.” - Frankie Rogers, Kelley Blue Book

2. It Offers Class-Leading Performance

You aren’t likely looking for a luxury SUV that can break the land-speed record, but you also want something with a little extra oomph to help with merging onto the Palmetto Expressway. For all intents and purposes, you get type of performance from both the RDX and GV70, though Acura’s compact crossover can’t match what Genesis puts out.

The 2022 Acura RDX zips around, to be sure, but its singular engine – a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder – only boasts horsepower and torque in the 272 and 280 lb-ft range, respectively. That beats something like the bland Honda CR-V (190 hp and 179 lb-ft torque), but certainly not the 2022 GV70.

Leading the segment in this department is the Genesis GV70. Standard on every GV70 is a 300-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-banger that bludgeons the concrete at a torqued rate of 311 lb-ft. What’s under the hood of the GV70 3.5T model? A 3.5L twin-turbo V6 makes a blistering 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both engines out-duel the 2022 RDX, and it isn’t close.

While the RDX gets by with standard front-wheel drive (and available “Super Handling All-Wheel Drive”), all Genesis GV70 models stick to AWD. That’s what’s expected of SUVs these days, and Acura isn’t keeping up with the status quo.

3. Its Technology Game is Unbeatable

Both luxury SUVs have luxury-SUV features, but it’s the GV70 that goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Surround View Monitor & Remote Image Capture

When you’re sitting in a pointless office meeting and start feeling worried about your GV70, don’t let catastrophizing thoughts invade your 9-to-5. With Genesis’s Surround View Monitor and unique Remote Image Capture system, you can use your phone to check on your luxury SUV in real-time and from anywhere. This feature utilizes GV70’s camera system to provide live snapshots of and around your vehicle. That’s some next-level peace of mind, yeah?

The 2022 Acura RDX doesn’t have many similar features to monitor your vehicle while you’re doing the daily grind. You’ll just have to have faith in your fellow humans.

Standard 14.5” HD Touchscreen

2022 Genesis GV70 Technology
Genesis’s next-generation infotainment system is on full display, literally, inside the all-new Genesis GV70. The cloud-powered infotainment software provides quick and accurate directions and integrates seamlessly with your smartphone. Best of all, it’s fitted within a standard 14.5-inch high-def touchscreen.

A smaller 10.2-inch HD center display is found in the Acura RDX, and there is no upgrade or larger screen available.

Fingerprint Reader

Harnessing the power of the industry’s first fingerprint reader, the 2022 Genesis GV70 allows you to hop in the driver’s seat and start the car with the quick tap of your tip (fingertip, that is). The setup can be custom programmed with separate, personalized driver profiles, and users can even activate Valet mode without a PIN. If you’ve got fingers, you’re all set.

Unless you count knobs and buttons as “next-gen,” the 2022 RDX does not have any comparable features.

Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist – Reverse

2022 Genesis GV70 collision-avoidance assist
Although the RDX and GV70 are both ranked among the safest SUVs for sale, the 2022 GV70 has a slight advantage over Acura: Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse (PCA-R). This Genesis safety feature helps prevent collisions with other vehicles, objects, or pedestrians when reversing into or exiting a parking spot. If you don’t heed its warnings and take action, PCA-R can even apply brakes when a collision seems inevitable.

Additionally, the Genesis GV70 also includes standard features that are either unavailable or optional upgrades in the 2022 RDX. This includes rain-sensing wipers, a roof rack, and GPS navigation. The range-topping GV70 3.5T also includes optional rear-seat climate control settings, which the RDX doesn’t offer.

4. Genesis’s Warranty & Coverage is Far Superior

You’re spending a hefty sum on a luxury SUV, so you might want to invest in the brand that provides the most peace of mind. When it comes to Acura vs Genesis, it’s Genesis all the way. Here’s how the warranties and roadside assistance coverage breaks down for the 2022 GV70 vs. 2022 RDX:

5. It’s a Better Overall Value

All things considered, buying a luxury SUV for a smidge over $40,000 (or even $50,000) is a great value. You want to ensure every cent you pay makes sense, though, which is why the Genesis GV70 should sit atop the Acura RDX on your wish list. With better warranty coverage, features, and performance – let alone the higher resale value for being a multiple SUV of the Year winner – the 2022 GV70 SUV is the smartest choice for your wallet.
