2023 Genesis GV70 vs. 2023 Audi Q5
Audi's top-selling model is the sporty Q5 SUV. Genesis's top-selling model is... not the GV70, even though it appears to be head and shoulders better than the Q5, as we'll outline below. Now, what that says about the Q5, let alone all of Audi's lineup, is up for you to decide.

We can't really hate on Audi too much—they do make nice vehicles in the greater scheme of things. We can, however, use facts to substantiate our claim that the new 2023 GV70 is a far more compelling luxury compact SUV.  It's stronger. It's more spacious. It's handsomer. It's the whole package.

Power & Performance

Nothing Audi Q5 delivers under the hood can compete with GV70. The Q5 comes with one of two engines: a 2.0L 4-cylinder that makes 201 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque or 261 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.

Genesis GV70 goes for gold with its pair of available engines (and 8-speed transmission). The entry GV70 2.5T chugs along with a 2.5L Turbo-4 that makes 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. Step up to the GV70 3.5T and gain a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 that pumps out 391 lb-ft of torque and 375 horsepower.

With those differences, you'd expect the Q5 to be better than the GV70 on gas. That's not entirely the case; Audi Q5 40 TFSI quattro returns 23 city/29 highway mpg, which compares to GV70 2.5T's 22 city/28 highway mpg. Hardly a drop in the fuel can, as you can see.

Interior

Both these small luxury SUVs seat 4 or 5 riders, but Genesis GV70's cabin is far more accommodating. Compared to the Q5, GV70 offers more front legroom, overall headroom, and total cargo space (56.9 vs. 54 cubic feet). Genesis also comes with a more comprehensive list of standard and optional features, including standard wireless phone charging, available seat massaging, standard driver attention monitoring and lane keeping assist, available rear seat reminder, standard power hands-free smart liftgate, and an available fingerprint reader and Genesis Digital Key. As a cherry on top, GV70's 14.5" HD screen is not only larger than Audi Q5's 12.3" display, but it's also more inviting to retinas.

Price

If you're buying a luxury SUV, money is secondary to everything else noted above. But money is still a factor, and Genesis GV70 is a more wallet-friendly buy.

The base GV70 2.5T AWD and Audi Q5 40 TFSI models are comparably priced; GV70 starts at approximately $43,000 while the Q5 pushes past $44,000. The top-o'-the-line Audi Q5 45 TFSI Prestige will set you back over $57,000, while the packed GV70 3.5T V6 comes with a starting MSRP north of $55,000.

That price difference may not appear to be so dramatic on paper, but when you combine it with warranty coverage, GV70 becomes much more palpable. Every Audi Q5 is backed by a meager 4-year/50,000-mile warranty. The 2023 Genesis GV70 gives you a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, as well as a 5-year/60,000-mile basic new vehicle warranty. Essentially, you're paying less for more peace of mind.

Worst of all, if you're someone who likes to compare and contrast vehicles before buying one, you'll discover that Audi has made it incredibly difficult to even review specs and features online. You have to go to the dealership just to get accurate info, and that's far from convenient. Stick with Genesis if that sounds like Hell on Earth to you.
