Genesis recently announced its Genesis Art Initiatives, which has officially launched the Genesis Façade Commission.

So, what does that mean exactly? And why would a luxury car company get involved with art in the first place? Let’s look at what’s going on here and why Genesis has decided to get involved in this exciting program.

What is the Genesis Façade Commission?

The Genesis Façade Commission is a program where Genesis is taking over corporate sponsorship of the installation of four new statues in the Fifth Avenue façade niches at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, sometimes better known as the Met.

Every year since 2019, the Met has had a different renowned artist create sculptures for its niches, and Genesis has launched a five-year partnership to sponsor this program.

Which Artist is Creating This Year’s Sculptures?

South Korean artist Lee Buhl has created the four sculptures—titled Long Tail Halowhich will be on display in front of the museum from September 12, 2024 to May 27, 2025. Her work is often made of glass, porcelain, fabric, silicone, metal, and other labor-intensive materials; it evokes classical and futuristic bodily forms while addressing the aspirations and disillusions that progress brings.

Her involvement with this program marks her first solo exhibition in the United States since 2002. This occasion marks the first time an artist living and working in Asia will have their work featured in the Met’s Fifth Avenue façade niches.

Why Has Genesis Gotten Involved with The Met’s Façade Program?

Genesis has launched this Art Initiative program because the members of the Hyundai Motor Group have always been avid supporters of the arts, and they’d like to use this Genesis partnership to enrich today’s cultural dialogue by amplifying the timeless insights that artists often express through their works. This initiative also works well with Genesis’s goal of realizing original experiences, as no two people who visit the Met and view these sculptures will see them the same way.

Overall, being involved in this type of art program allows Genesis to shape cultural legacies and give museumgoers access to fantastic works by premiere artists.

Is the Met the Only Museum the Genesis Art Initiative Working with?

No, it isn’t. Genesis is also working with the Tate Modern in London to open a similar annual exhibit there. Genesis wants its Arts Initiative to support multiple museums around the globe. For now, though, the Met and the Tate Modern are great places to start this initiative.

With a little luck, we may even get an exhibit near our Genesis dealership in South Florida. Hey, we can dream.
