Genesis SUVs have gained popularity in the last few years, with more and more popping up on the roads in and around Miami, inspiring people to look into the brand to see why they’re considered one of the best luxury midsize SUV makers of 2025. Two of the most popular models you’ve likely seen are the Genesis GV70 and Genesis GV80, both being designed and engineered for smooth, comfortable rides with plenty of features to enjoy. But that does raise the question: Which Genesis SUV is more luxurious?

In this guide, we’ll put the two luxury midsize SUVs head to head in a Genesis GV70 vs. Genesis GV80 specs showdown. Read on to learn more about the GV70 and GV80 to determine which midsize SUV is better for your needs.

Genesis GV70 Vs. Genesis GV80: Performance and Power

One of the interesting things when comparing the Genesis GV70 vs. the Genesis GV80 is that they share the same engines. Both models ship standard with a turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that cranks out an impressive 300 horsepower. They also have an available upgrade in the turbocharged 3.5L V-6 engine with 375 horsepower. The engine you choose determines the seating setup of the GV80 only, but we’ll get to that a bit later.

Both the GV70 and GV80 come standard with all-wheel drive, but you should note that there isn’t another drivetrain available. For those who want simplicity, front-wheel or rear-wheel drive are not options. However, all-wheel drive is a sought-after option across the SUV spectrum because of its tighter handling and better performance on uneven and unpaved roads. If you’re entertaining the thought of going off-road, both the GV70 and GV80 will easily handle it.

Genesis GV70 Vs. Genesis GV80: MPG

Given the amount of power Genesis engines have, both of these midsize SUVs get competitive fuel economy ratings. Your mileage will vary, depending on which engine you choose for both the GV70 and GV80, but thankfully not by too much. So, if you want the more powerful engine, you won’t sacrifice fuel economy for it.

Genesis GV70 MPG

  • 2.5L engine: 22 city / 28 highway
  • 3.5L engine: 18 city / 24 highway

Genesis GV80 MPG

  • 2.5L engine: 19 city / 24 highway
  • 3.5L engine: 16 city / 24 highway

Note that due to its larger size, the GV80 will get a couple less miles per gallon of gasoline than the GV70.

Genesis GV70 Vs. Genesis GV80: Interior and Tech

The Genesis GV70 interior looks like the most advanced cockpit from a sci-fi movie, while the Genesis GV80 interior opts for a luxury boardroom design. Both vehicles feature high-quality materials to adorn surfaces and feature heated front seats standard on all trims. Upper-level trims offer ventilated and massaging front seats for added comfort.

One of the biggest differences between the two models comes in their seating arrangements. The GV70 seating caps at five passengers, while the GV80’s seating can go up to seven. However, there’s a caveat. The Genesis GV80 can hold up to seven passengers, but it’s dependent on choosing the version with the 3.5L engine. The GV80 with the 2.5L engine can only seat five. So, if you need to fit a few extra passengers or want more legroom, you’ll need to choose one of the upper-level trims of the GV80.

For tech, both vehicles feature a widescreen, 27” curved infotainment display with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity. Both vehicles also feature a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless charging, but while these features are standard on the GV80, they’re only available on the more expensive GV70 trims. All things considered, however, you won’t lack for connectivity and tech with either vehicle.

Genesis GV70 Vs. Genesis GV80: Safety

Both vehicles are incredibly reliable and safe machines, meaning there’s no wrong choice. Both the GV70 and GV80 have received 5-star ratings from the NHTSA and were awarded Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS. Standard safety and driver assistance features include:

  • Lane assist
  • Blind-spot warnings
  • Forward collision alerts
  • Parking collision avoidance
  • Evasive steering assist
  • And more. â€‹
