The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the ’23 GV60 its most coveted award, the Top Safety Pick+. This is one of the highest accolades in the entire auto industry, and the spunky luxury EV won with flying colors, earning a perfect IIHS score in both crash avoidance and crashworthiness, which effectively makes it among the safest family SUVs on the market today, according to the experts.
This, of course, is no surprise considering Genesis’ sterling track record for safety. In fact, almost every Genesis model won the highest award for 2022 as well, including the G70, G80, G90, GV70, and GV80.
Substantiating its claim as being one of the safest family vehicles around, the first Genesis EV also comes with an impressive array of ADAS features. Highway driving assist implements adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance features to optimize performance on the open road. Surround view monitor, which effectively eliminates blind spots at low speeds, is also standard. For drivers skittish about parking lots, remote smart parking assist can intelligently squeeze into tight spaces and even parallel park at the press of a button.

The GV60 works well as an errand-mobile too. Cargo volume behind the second row is 24 cubic feet (about the volume of a large refrigerator) even, which provides enough space for most grocery or department store missions; fold the rear seats down, and that space more than doubles, to an impressive 54.7 cubes. Split rear bench seating makes for versatile cargo configurations, ideal for family road trips.
GV60 Luxury Amenities and Design
All right, so it’s safe and functional—but does it have the panache you’d expect from a luxury brand?
Genesis has poured their ethos of “athletic elegance” into every panel, screen, and fabric of the GV60. In their review of the model, critics at The Drive described the interior as “stunning,” noting that “it feels like something made by folks who really cared about it.”
Even if you’re not crazy about the exterior, you can’t deny that the inside of this thing was designed to stand out in the crowd. One of the most eye-grabbing features is the GV60’s patented Crystal Sphere technology. An industry first, this orb-shaped gear shifting apparatus dances with color when you enter the vehicle. Turn the engine on, and it flips to reveal a sleek dial shifter.
Continuing the trend of industry firsts, the GV60 also features standard Face Connect, which employs facial recognition scanning to allow you to enter your car without even having to use a key. If that isn’t sci-fi enough for you, this electric crossover also features a touch encrypted authorization system, which allows you to customize and automatically select preset driver profiles with the touch of a finger. This game-changing tech makes switching between drivers a breeze if you’re sharing the GV60 with a spouse or partner. Plus, it just feels so dang cool.
The all-new Genesis infotainment platform is also on full display in the GV60. Two stylish 12.3-inch screens await side-by-side, and when used in conjunction with the preset driver profiles, it allows for a fully customizable experience that includes navigation, audio, display, and vehicle diagnostics. It also features an available 17-speaker 1400-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system for a truly transcending listening experience.
With all these next-gen features and more, is it any wonder that Genesis was ranked as the best brand in overall technology innovation by J.D. Power?
GV60 Performance
It may be among the best SUVs for families, but make no mistake, this all-electric vehicle is a whippable blast of excitement wrapped in plastic and sheet metal.
The GV60 is currently available in two different power configurations: Advanced AWD, and Performance AWD. Both are powered by front and rear dual electric motors, with the base-level Advanced AWD motivated by a 74-kilowatt front/160-kilowatt back setup. The zippier Performance AWD, meanwhile, has the 160-KW motors in both front and back for added torque and acceleration.
The Performance AWD powertrain tops out at 429 horsepower, making it the quickest model Genesis has ever put out—the auto experts at Car and Driver noted that they were able to get it up from 0 to 60 in under four seconds with this setup. That alone is impressive enough for an electric SUV, but it also has a trick up its sleeve: depress the button on the lower right portion of the steering wheel, and Boost Mode is engaged. This temporarily cranks things up to an astonishing 483 HP, giving you about 10 seconds of high-powered electric adrenaline.

GV60 Economy and Charging
Now for the burning question on everyone’s mind when electric vehicles come up: What’s the range and charging like?
Out of the two currently available models, the GV60 Advanced AWD, gets approximately 248 miles on a full charge, with an EPA-estimated rating of 103 city/86 highway/95 combined MPGe. If that seems like it may not be quite enough for your liking, don’t worry—the upcoming rear-wheel drive iteration is predicted to have even more driving range.
If you’re still unconvinced, the ultra-fast charging 77.4 kWh battery should be plenty of sugar with the medicine. Under proper DC fast charging conditions, your EV will be able to go from 10% to 80% charged in under 20 minutes. The super quick charge battery can easily be juiced up while you pop into the store to do a bit of shopping, go see a movie, or spend some time at the park, making the GV60 one of the best electric SUVs for families on the go.
