EV Battery Myths

When you’re in the market for a new luxury vehicle you want the top-of-the-line everything which includes the latest and best in technology, form, and functionality. Knowing that the future is electric, it’s obvious that the consideration of an electric vs. gas-powered, or Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), vehicle is at the top of the list to research.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been growing more popular in the U.S. every year, and auto manufacturers have been putting massive resources toward making their EV models best-in-class. With vehicles like the Genesis GV60 SUV, the technology in EVs is unparalleled.

And yet there continue to be myths about EVs in the marketplace, especially around the topic of EV batteries. Let’s take this opportunity to take a deep dive into common EV concerns and misconceptions and compare them to the facts.

Myth 1: Limited Range

Range anxiety is always the first concern to come up when considering an EV. And for good reason – not all EVs are built equal!

But if you bring home a new 2024 Genesis GV60 Advanced today, with its 77.4-kWh battery pack with 248 miles of driving range – that’s more than enough to take it straight from Miami to Disney World without a single charge.

With a range of 235 miles or over for any 2024 Genesis EV models, range should not be a concern for our globe-trotting customers. And with Genesis adopting the North American Charging Standard, giving access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers, charging on the go will only be getting easier.

Myth 2: Lack of Performance

There are concerns in the market about EV performance. This originates from consumers who might be dubious about the newness and unfamiliarity of EV technology.

In reality, EV technology is some of the best on the market today. Because of their high torque motors, EVs have great acceleration across the board compared with ICE vehicles. EVs also tend to have fantastic handling, responsiveness, and safety.

Myth 3: EV Battery Life Expectancy

Many consumers are concerned about the life span and cost of replacing EV batteries. These concerns are very valid – batteries obviously play a very critical role in EV performance. And the news here is great!

New Genesis EV models come with a 10-year or 100,000 mile (whichever comes first) battery warranty, meaning you can rest easy knowing your battery will be buzzing with energy to take you where you need to go for a long time.

Genesis EV Battery Warranty & Replacement Policy

If your EV battery needs fixing within the warranty period, we've got you covered! The warranty takes care of any repairs that fall under its terms. In case of warranty service, we'll repair or replace the necessary components, ensuring your original EV battery is back in action. If needed, we can alternatively swap out the battery with a new or refurbished Lithium-ion battery. And don’t worry about losing power – whether repaired or replaced, we’ll ensure the battery has the same energy capacity as it did before the issue occurred.

Myth 4: Maintenance Cost

The cost of ownership is much lower for EVs than ICE vehicles – meaning, you save money owning an EV. And that comes down to two factors – firstly, cost to run, with electricity being a cheaper commodity than gas. A Consumer Reports study showed that typical EV owners will save $800 to $1,000 a year on fueling costs.

The second cost savings is due to maintenance. Because EVs have fewer moving parts there’s no need for oil changes and other common vehicle maintenance needs. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy states that estimated scheduled maintenance for EVs averages $0.06 per mile, while ICE vehicles average $0.10 per mile. For a driver that drives 13,500 miles a year, that’s $540 a year in savings with an EV on maintenance alone.

There are fewer aspects of maintenance for EVs, but here are some things that will still need to be inspected regularly:

  • Battery
  • Brakes
  • Brake fluid
  • Coolant
  • Tire care
  • Air filter replacement
  • Windshield wiper blades and fluid
For clients purchasing a new Genesis model, the cost of maintenance is even less of a concern. All new Genesis models come with the Genesis 5-Year Care Plan, a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty for private owners that includes complimentary scheduled service, private roadside assistance, courtesy car, pick-up and drop-off service, and software updates. All components that are part of the original vehicle specification, that are manufactured or supplied by Genesis (excluding tires and accessories), which are found to be defective during normal use of the vehicle, will be repaired or replaced at the discretion of Genesis at no cost to the vehicle owner.
